LJ16 roadmap

MiniGym

  • Find and purchase rubber flooring; transport to LJ16
  • Empty gym room
  • Install rubber flooring, cutting rubber flooring modules as needed to fit room
  • Move exercise equipment into MiniGym
  • Replace exercise cable bar with climbing anchors and carabiners
  • Mount pull-up cables from climbing anchors
  • Rack with hooks along walls for hanging up accessories, cables, etc.

Hallway MiniOffice

  • Clean out residual "junk" from big apartment era, e.g. stored kitchen equipment, bottles, shelves, used frying oil, etc.
  • Electrical:
    • Trace wiring from hallway junction box outside MiniOffice back to main panel
    • Connect unused wire in hallway junction box to ground busbar in main panel and repurpose as a ground wire
    • Run ground wire from hallway junction box into MiniOffice
    • Install a junction box where cable from hallway enters MiniOffice
    • ~~Remove dangling light bulb; replace with a wall-mounted fixture ~~
    • Run modern cable from junction box to light switch box to supply switch and future outlets
    • Remove old single-gang light switch box; cut out space in masonry wall for new two-gang box that can hold both switch and an outlet
    • Install new two-gang box; replace old light switch with TEM SM10; install an outlet
    • Cut out channel in masonry wall for conduit running from two-gang box to outlet location above computer
    • Cut out space in masonry wall for computer outlet box; install box
    • Run conduit and cable from two-gang box to computer outlet box; install outlet
  • Timber frame cleanup:
    • Mechanically remove cracking plaster from structural wooden timbers
    • Sand down timbers with grinder flap disks to remove lingering plaster
    • Sand down timbers with random orbital sander to remove lingering plaster and restore clean wood
  • Patch gaps between timbers and wall with e.g. spackle or plaster
  • Clean existing plaster/masonry walls of any flaking pieces and obvious blemishes; patch as necessary
  • Final sanding of timbers to clean off any plaster
  • Clean construction dust from entire space with e.g. wet rag
  • Mask timbers, door/window trim, plumbing, etc. in preparation for painting
  • Paint plaster surfaces with a cheerful vapor-diffusive mineral (e.g. silicate) paint
  • Finish wood beams with e.g. linseed oil or a non-VOC finish
  • Build and install a custom-fit computer desk
  • Install accessories: monitor, speakers, etc.

Cleaning infrastructure

  • Mops/brooms hanging area:
    • Remove defunct dishwasher mechanicals cabinet
    • Correct crooked outlet; cap off drain line, fill cracks where utilities penetrate wall
    • Fill and whitewash plaster wall around former cabinet area
    • Install rack for hanging mops/brooms

Nice apartment to drop into

Clean up and order my apartment into a state such that I'd be pleased and proud to have people drop in whenever, unannounced, i.e. without my needing to clean things up.

Visions

  • A tablet running EliMusic is a next step above PiAmbient. Like, a finger-controlled interface to EliMusic where you can see all the songs laid out in front of you, without having to memorize all the track IDs, and control them with e.g. swipes and pushes and so on.

  • Rows and rows of clean glass spice jars in the fridge doorshelf with cool earthy shades of oranges and reds and browns and yellows holding single ingredients, holding Eli spice mixes, holding blends, etc.

  • Warm cozy office in hallway room, interior wrapped entirely in warm nicely-finished wood with a nice grain, warm and inviting, plenty of outlets, beams showing wood, etc.

  • In living room, a light fixture in every corner of living room around the one in the center
